Babylon Swallow Brooch

Babylon Swallow Brooch

Babylon Swallow Brooch by Areej: 18k Yellow Gold, Black Diamond, Imperial Jade Stone, and Ruby.

This powerfully symbolic brooch by Areej is inspired by the black and white Iraqi swallow bird symbolizing freedom, eternal love and happiness. As a spirit animal, swallows helped to unveil a person's true self by giving strength and love. Their strength and love stems from patience in travelling long distances and their loyalty towards their partner throughout the years.

Made of yellow gold and stylized with black diamond, the swallow bird carries a beech tree leaf as a symbol of purity and serenity of the Mesopotamian era. Beech tree leaves were widely used in Mesopotamian jewellery and crafts as Ancient Sumerians were the first to invent soap by using the ashes of beech tree leaves and animal fat.

The brooch's center piece "the green stone" is a 300 years old imperial jade stone symbolizes purity and gentleness. Its striking red eye is made out of ruby stones inspiring nobility and passion.

Flying in with a beech leaf from the ancient Mesopotamian era, let this fine piece settle down on your chest.
